Essex Style Show

My client Lee Farrow of Essexy Clothing booked to go to the Essex Style Show with a company called Material Girl.  I was to represent him there with my friend Dilay Moore of Pieridae Beauty.  (Dee is former Miss Essex).  Dee was giving away discount vouchers for beauty treatments at the Essexy stall.  We were initially really excited.  The venue was to be Kosho in Romford on 30th January.  The venue was a good size and had a runway for the models.

The venue changed to Luxe in Loughton at the last minute without explaination, I found this really odd.  Lee had booked a runway spot, a rail and a table for the show.  He found out just the night before that he would not get the rail he paid for.  After several emails from Lee and myself, Louise at Material Girl agreed to provide the rail that Lee had paid for.

On the night Dee and I came into Luxe expecting something quite different.  The venue smelt like vomit and was quite small.  None of the staff seemed to know what was happening and there were lots of confused people standing around.  I found the events co-ordinator Chanelle, whe was very vague about details and was dealing with everybody on her own.  She seems very distracted.  We were told to go upstairs for the table and rail, the shopping would be upstairs and the modelling downstairs.

Upstairs resembled a jumble sale, everybody crammed in together.  After finding Chanelle again I found out that we were stuck in the corner with a tiny "table" that resembled a bar stool, Lee paid for a proper table.  Dee called Lee and as I went to hand the phone to Chanelle, she was visably trying to get away.  It was so crowded she couldn't and I became loud and insistant that she speak to Lee.  After turning her back to us and whispering into the phone, she said she didn't know what he said as she couldn't hear.  Luckily she couldn't get away, Lee called back and she spoke to him again, then she handed me the phone.  Lee told me that talking to her was pointless, so Dee and I worked with what we had.  Lee decided to come down too in the end.

Dee and I got some bar stools together and fashioned a table.  I then went looking for our model Annabelle.  She was lovely.  Unfortuately she had been standing around all night with no direction and that was not about to change.  Dee and I tried to look after her the best we could, then eventually she was told to go downstairs.  I kept asking Chantelle if she would inform the models of what they were doing, she kept telling me "in a minute".

Well it turns out that the runway spot was all the models standing cheapley and dangerously on the bar to be photographed.  The whole event was organised attrociously and there were lots of negative comments.  Also a few people left early in disgust.  It was frankly shocking.

Lee turned up and was unimpressed by it all, but thanked Dee, Annabelle and I for all our efforts, dispite all the odds being against us.

We did have some interest in Essexy and we meet some nice people as well as some old friends.  It was just a shame that the event wasn't properly organised as it would have been more productive to everybody who attended.

Annabelle also blogged for us about her experience at the Essex Style Show and how much she loves Essexy  http://t.co/iBEWAVnQ Thank you to Annabelle, the blog post is really interesting and lovely.

I have emailed the company who organised the event asking for a refund for my client as the Trade Descriptions Act has been breached, unspurisingly I have head nothing back.  It appears that everybody who attended are also blocked from the Essex Style Show Twitter account.

  2. Hi Jenny and Anna Belle, I've read both your blog posts and have found them really insightful. Thank you for the info. I'm having a bit of a problem getting in touch with Louise from Material Girl. There is another show coming up next week and I have booked a stall to sell my products at LUXE (I wish I would have read your information before booking a stall though, as I definitely wouldn't have done it!)....do you happen to have a mobile number for her please? As she isn't responding to any of my emails.

Thanks for your help. Sorry to hear you had problems...I have a feeling this is going to happen to me next week! Claudia x
